Who are these cats, anyway?

Sweet ‘n’ Hot are Christchurch-based dance partners Sharon Blance and Brence Coghill.

Sharon and Brence started dancing in 2004 and quickly discovered a passion for dancing and a love of performing. They formed Sweet ‘n’ Hot to create a professional dance performance, entertainment and event theming service dedicated to bringing all the fun and excitement of the swing era to modern audiences.

Together they choreograph and perform a variety of dance styles from the 1920s, ’30s and ’40s – including Charleston, Lindy Hop, Balboa, Collegiate Shag and Solo Jazz – and dance to authentic music of the times as well as modern popular songs.

Sharon and Brence have performed in a variety of venues, from the massive Westpac Arena to the intimate surrounds of Christchurch’s Octagon jazz restaurant.

In 2008 they starred in the MoreFM Silver Screen Christmas Gala at Riccarton House, and in 2009 were the featured performers for the ‘Swing Time in Christchurch’ event at the Christchurch Air Force Museum – where so many people came to see the performance that the venue ran out of chairs!

They don’t just ‘go through the steps’ when on stage – they perform with an exuberance and chemistry that has earned them countless compliments from audiences as well as gold, silver and bronze medals in 2009 for Solo Charleston and Lindy Hop in the Christchurch Swing Dance championships.

Sharon and Brence also teach one-on-one and group dance classes, dance workshops, vintage fashion workshops, and are favourite teachers and DJs for the Christchurch swing dancing scene.

Together they guarantee to bring excitement, pizzazz and a whole lot of fun to your next event!
